Medeama SC put up a spirited performance to beat African giants TP Mazembe 3-2 at the Essipong Park in Sekondi in the CAF Confederation Cup Group A encounter on Sunday.
The sole representative of Ghana gave hope to their semi finals ambition in their maiden African campaign with the famous victory over the five-time African Champions.
Midfielder Kwesi Donsu snatched the all important win for the Yellow and Mauves with some few seconds to end proceedings at the 20,000 capacity Stadium.
Malik Akowuah returned to the starting line up, and was handed the captains’ armband for the day.
Medeama who appeared destined to pick the maximum points struck first through Enoch Atta Agyei.
Agyei who recently joined Azam FC in Tanzania gave the home side the lead through a well taken free-kick, which slipped through the hands of Mazembe goalie, Slyvain Gbohouo. Coach Prince Owusu’s men hold on to end the first half.
The Tarkwa-based outfit pressed for the second gpal on the afternoon, and on the 70th minute youngster Moses Sarpong converted a penalty pick to hand Medeam a 2-0 lead.
But the star studded Mazembe side stunned the Ghana MTN FA Cup winners by equalizing the two goals within a spate of 6 minutes, thanks to goals from Jonathan Bolingi Mpangi and Rainford Kalaba.
However, with some few seconds to end the game, Kwesi Donsu connected a cross from Samuel Adade to the delight of the fans that thronged to the facility.
Medeama now moves to the second position on 8 points, whiles MO Bejaia drops to third on 5 points after losing 1-0 to Young Africans on Saturday.
Mazembe still lead the Group A with 10 points, while Yanga lie 4th with 4 points.
Medeama will have to secure at least a point from their last game against Bejaia in Algeria to ensure qualification to the last four.
