Coach J.E Sarpong has lauded the credentials of Ghanaian referees following some agitations by club officials requesting for foreign referees to handle the upcoming MTN FA Cup finals in Tamale.
The Cup finals slated for October 29, involves the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana, Asante Kotoko and Hearts Of Oak. Kotoko piped Medeama, whilst Hearts defeated All Stars to qualify.
And, prior to the epic encounter many football enthusiast and mostly Hearts Of Oak officials have called on the FA Cup committee to appoint foreign-based referees for the game.
According to the complainers, the current performance of local referees is very poor hence the quest for neutral officials to handle the more important cup final.
But Coach Sarpong believes that the problem is with the appointment committee, noting that Ghana have competent referees.
“We have good referees in Ghana but the problem is with the appointment committee”‘ he told Asempa FM.
“It’s an inditement on Ghanaian referees for a foreigner to handle FA cup finals”
Kotoko and Hearts last played FA Cup final in 1990. Kotoko won 4-2 but Hearts were declared winners after winning a protest they lodged against the Reds.
