The Central Regional Sports Development Director, Abaido Wilson has said the National Sports Authority is very relevant and important in the country in terms of sports administration.
In an interview on ATL FM’s sports programme Agoro Nie Pie Mu Ka on Wednesday, Mr Wilson disclosed that NSA is pivotal in the development of sports in Ghana “Very relevant, very, very relevant in the sense that we are there as government officials for sports. We implement government’s policies on sports”, he said.
Mr. Wilson added that sports is all about collaboration as football is associated to FIFA, volleyball associated to international volleyball federation, all other sports are affiliated to international bodies.
“But when it comes to the country that is when government comes in to help. Therefore, we as government agency, collaborate with other sports associations to develop sports in the country”. “Government therefore lays the platform to help sports to thrive in the country” he added.
The astute sports administrator, further stated that the limited sports facilities do not help in the growth of sports in the country. “Aside the few football clubs in the country like; Elmina Sharks, Ashantigold and Liberty Professionals that have their own stadium, the rest are for the government.
Some countries have set aside special places where the various disciplines have their court to help the development of sports in their country,” he concluded.
Mr Abaido Wilson who has two more years to retire has been transferred to the head office in Accra. The transfer will take effect on 15th October, 2017.
