Coach JE Sarpong has advised Black Stars trainer Kwesi Appiah to bench Asamoah Gyan when Ghana take on Egypt in the last qualifier of the 2018 World Cup.
The senior national team will lock horns with the Pharaohs of Egypt on Sunday, at the Cape Coast Stadium. Egypt currently lead the Group and will need just a draw to book a place to Russia next year.
Gyan is doubtful for the game after pulling out of the Stars training on Wednesday, together with Christian Atsu.
Sarpong, who coached the Kayerispor attacker at the Senior High School level believes that Appiah should rest Gyan to prevent him from sustaining serious injury since a win will not even qualify Ghana to the Mundial.
“My advice to Kwesi Appiah is that he should start Asamoah Gyan from bench in our matches to prevent him from sustaining any serious injury,”
“he’s still our skipper and we need to help him by bringing him into matches during second halves of our matches” Sarpong told Nhyira FM.
Ghana lie third on the log behind Egypt and Uganda.
