The Ghana Taekwondo Federation is in preparation to begin their 2018 calendar with the Junior championship early this year.
The championship which was supposed to be held in March last year saw several postponements due to agreement and acquisition of venue with Sponsors.
The Junior championship will serve as a justification for the World Taekwondo Junior Championship in April and the Youth Olympic qualification tournament in Tunisia.
The GTF had a successful 2017 which was climaxed with the ‘I Love Taekwondo’ Video contest held at the Korean Sports complex in Tema on December 16.
The Federation will therefore have to push for the organization of the Junior Championship, soon enough to help prepare the athletes for the upcoming World events.
In an interview with the press, President of the GTF, Frederick Lartey Otu says, early 2018 will be busy for them.
“This is the last event for 2017. Next year, we intend to organize the Junior championship in the first quarter because in April, we have the World Taekwondo Junior championship and also the Youth Olympic qualification tournament in Tunisia. In March, we have the African senior championship in Morocco, so early next is going to be busy for us.”
The Federation which is also suffering support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSA, last received funds from the government in 2001. With a new government and new GOC administration in place, things are expected to be better.
