43rd SWAG Awards Night set for April

The MTN Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has set Saturday, April 28 to hold their 43rd Awards Night.

Announcing the date for the event at the Launch on Thursday, January 25, President Kwabena Yeboah acknowledged their predecessors, whose efforts have made the SWAG Awards not only the most excellent and distinguished of all awards in Ghana, but also the most exciting.

The Awards Night which will honour deserving sports men and women for the 2017 calendar year in the country might have a venue change as it is not known when renovation work at the banquet hall will be completed. The date becomes very appropriate as by that time, Ghana’s contingent would have returned from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Kwabena Yeboah, in his address revealed plans by SWAG to get newly crowned Liberian President, H.E. George Oppong Weah to be the Special Guest of Honour, with discussions currently ongoing.

“We have had preliminary discussion with the lieutenants of newly crowned Liberian President, H.E. George Oppong Weah, to be our Special Guest of Honour, after our own President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, gracefully shared the stage with us last year.”

The Writer also acknowledged the continuous support of MTN at the launch which was held at the MTN HOUSE Media Centre.

“As always, we are eternally indebted to MTN for helping us live the dream with their unalloyed support over the years. It ought to be axiomatic and apodictic that without MTN the much talked about SWAG Awards Night wouldn’t be what it is today. The marriage will be in the tenth year today and ‘for better for worse’ till death do us apart. And what SWAG and MTN, has put together, let no man put asunder. There was an enhancement of MTN’s support for us last year and there is a firm belief of further stimulation this year, details of which will be announced in due course.”

On his part, The Acting Corporate Services Executive, Robert Kuzoe expressed his delight in how early SWAG listed the nominees, encouraging the media to project the nominees through discussions on their various platforms.

This year, SWAG will honour our heroes and heroines from 49 nominees, including individuals and institutions in 21 categories drawn from 18 sporting disciplines. The most prestigious category, the Sports Personality of the Year, will be announced on the night of the event.

He didn’t end his address without recognizing the unflinching support of other partners which include, Activa International Insurance, GOIL, uniBank, CDH Holdings, Stanbic Bank, Santa Baron, Star Times.
