The Ghana Taekwondo Federation’s meeting with the top 4 ranking from their last championship went on successfully at the Conference room of the Ghana Olympic Committee in Accra yesterday.
The meeting which was to advise the athletes on their career, with regards to championships around the World was also to equip them with strategies to acquiring personal sponsorships.
With the new strategy adopted by the Federation (ranking) which will ease their player selection to future competition, the GTF advised the athletes on the importance of the African Senior Taekwondo championships and the WT President’s Cup in Morocco will be in getting points for their World ranking. Details of how points are accumulated were also explained.
Public Relations Officer of the Federation, Adnan Odartey Lamptey spoke to Herosportsgh.com .
“It was quite effective. The Athletes and their coaches turned up in their numbers, and some have to stand because the place was full. The President started the meeting by telling them how we are prepared to help individuals to seek sponsorship. We also solicited their views as to their challenges, the way forward and all that. And then the president gave them some strategy, approaching family members, family friends, people they know who have small businesses. Off course we also explained the advantages of attending the Morocco championship and then there are other championships both for the junior and the senior, for the rest of the year. We talked about discipline, membership registration, the WT Global membership system, as before you fight in an international championship you’ll need the Global license.”
All who attended the meeting were ranked from the 9th Korean Cup which was held in December last year. Also, former national athletes who didn’t participate in the Korean open were invited. There are other plans by the Federation to introduce a top four ranking championships soon.
The GTF will be busy this year in the International front but must begin with their national Junior Championship, which will help them pick athletes for Africa Junior championships in April.
