Volta Handball League returns this weekend

The Volta Regional Handball League returns this weekend at the Ho Sports Stadium with actions on Saturday, February 3, 2017.

The maiden league which has most school clubs went on break after the various schools vacated or the X’mas and New Year Holidays. It however returns with week 7 matches, as weeks 5 matches were played together with week 3 and 6 on November 18 and December 9 respectively. Teresco’s week 5 match against Mawuko was played on week 3 while Prosco had a walk over in their match against Sostech on week 6, as the latter didn’t turn up.

There has however been a change in the remaining league fixtures as OLA SHS has pulled out, coupling with 3 Tertiary institutions beginning their end of Semester exams.

The week 7 matches will see the only community club, Stars of Asha female locking horns with Mawuko at 1pm while Stars of Asha male play Prosco at 2:30pm.

Mawuko will be seeking for revenge against their counterparts as they lost to Stars of Asha (24-17/17-15) in the one day Gala.

Prosco will however have to work their socks off to beat Stars of Asha after losing to them (17-36) in the Gala played on October 28, 2017.

Secretary of the VRHA, Alfred Agrah in confirming the resumption of the league to TalksenseSports says, they are talking to some institutions to come on board.

“So the league will resume from the 3rd February 2018 with Mawuko locking horns with Stars of Asha ladies. Then in the male category, we have Stars of Asha again locking horns with St Prospers College. The female will come on 1 o’clock and that of the male, 2:30. We are still working with other institutions to come on board from the 10th to the 17th. The local rules wouldn’t change, it will be the same.”

Meanwhile, the outstanding match between Stars of Asha male and Ho Technical University will be played later in the month.

The Volta Regional Handball Association is likely to land 2 sponsors for the league. There are plans to expand the league to all zones in the region in the second season.
