Norvor presents 2 trophies to VRHA

Former national Handball player, Patrick Norvor has presented 2 trophies to the Volta Regional Handball Association.

The trophies, which are for winners of the VRHA maiden league was presented to the Association on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The presentation was part of trophies he (Norvor) promised when he witnessed the one day Gala held in October to usher in the league. Norvor, who captained the Black Hands from 1982-1986 was gratified by the determination of the VRHA to promote handball in the region, hence his support He told

Patrick Norvor intended to present the trophies during the 7th-week matches involving Stars of Asha with Mawuko and Prosco but unfortunately, the ties were postponed.

At a short ceremony held at the Handball court at the Stadium, Norvor who promised 4 trophies and goal posts to the Association says his gesture is to help develop Handball in the region to get back on its feet as in the olden days.

“It is a pleasure to be with you today to present the trophies. I think Volta region was once a powerhouse in all the hand games, Basketball, handball, Netball. We have people who played in the national teams, but these days I hardly hear that. So when I came the other day and saw the training session, I joined and even got to know that there is an Association which is making the effort to promote and develop the game in the region. What can I do, than to give my widow’s mite to support the course This is just the beginning, so the Best player, the Best Goalkeeper, in due course, I will bring the remaining.”

Chairman of the VRHA, Togbe Palmas Howusu in his appreciation to Mr Norvor, noted that the trophies will make the league more competitive.

“He promised that with time he will give us new sets of goal posts, so we are praying that he should be resourceful, the Lord should bless him so that wherever he’s getting the money, he should get more and get us the goal posts. In fact, since we started the program, you are the first to come out hopefully to help us. Coming with the trophies will strengthen the league system we have put in place. Thank you very much, we are grateful”.

The VRHL bounces back with week 8 fixtures on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Ho Sports Stadium.
