The Black Queens of Ghana were defeated by host nation Cote d’Ivoire by a lone goal in the opening match of the West Africa WAFU Zone B Woman’s tournament.
Nina Zote Kpaho scored the only goal for Cote d’Ivoire in the 70th minutes for her country. The Black Queen of Ghana dominated the match after they conceded the goal and made everything possible to equalize but all their efforts were not fruitful.
Ghana Black queens Interim head coach Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo in the post-match interview said that it was lack of concentration that led to their defeat against the host nation. “We conceded this preventable goal due to lack of concentration by my players. We need to put our eyes on the ball at any particular point in time with or without the ball during the entire 90minutes of the game”. She said. The Former player and referee added that the team will not be demotivated by this defeat. She believes they will prepare hard to win their other matches to qualify for the next stage of the competition.
In the other group game, Burkina Faso beat Niger by 3-0.
Black Queens will play Niger on the 16th of February, 2018.
