The Ghana Athletics Association held its 6th national championship at the Cape Coast stadium over the weekend. The events in which the athletes participate in are: 200m/400mH/800m/5000m/Triple Jump/High Jump/Javelin/Discus, 100m/100mH/400m/1500m/10000m/Long Jump/Shot put.
The vice president of the Ghana Athletics Association, Dr S.L. Lamptey believes there has been an improvement in the event as compared to what they had at the Essipong stadium.
“Today is an improvement of what we went through in Essipong stadium last month, there is an improvement in officiating and the competition itself. The athletes have done better than what they did at Essipong”, he said.
Dr Lamptey also reacted to the expectations of the athletes who were camped to be trained for the commonwealth game and he said some of them have improved and others not.
“Some of them yes, some not yet. Somebody like Hor Halutie, the 100m runner has improved very well”, he added. He also revealed that those who are not performing will go home if the camping is over and they have not shown an improvement.
Dr Lamptey final said there is going to be another circuit to select athletes for the 2018 C.A.A. African championship in Nigeria.
