Everest Cricket Club maintained their winning streak, despite a scare from GTA Superkings, in their week 3 tie of the ongoing Greater Accra Cricket League on Sunday, March 4, 2018.
The previous finalist who are playing in the Alpha league on Oval A, begun on a bright note in the afternoon, after they won the toss and elected to bat first.
Bharani Kumar and Moses Anefi had a good time, with wonderful runs until Moses was caught by Veera Pandi on the 14.3 over, having scored 17-12 out of the 121 total runs. Halim Khan, David Ankrah, and Simon Ateak all had their turns but Bharani Kumar’s remarkable 74-47 contributed to the club’s total run of 170-4. Nadhim Nadhim took 2-27 in 4 overs.
In the second Innings, GTA started slowly but surely, with the target of 171 runs possible. Their hopes were however dashed as hard hitters Kofi Bagabena (27-20), Frank Baleri (51-34), and Julius Mensah (23-7) were taken out. With 2 overs to go and the score at 145, Frank, who had strengthened the hopes of either drawing or winning the game, suffered an LBW, from Halim’s spinning ball which crippled GTA. They, however, managed 153-7, allowing their nemesis to win by 17 runs.
Everest, who defeated their bitter rivals Nsromma Taysec Titans in week 2 is still top of the Alpha table with 6 points. Nsromma Taysec Titans follow on the 2nd spot with 4 points after seeing off Dilmah in the morning.
An improved Dilmah side won the toss and chose to bat first but faced a tough fielding Nsromma who restricted them to a 96-8 score. Nsromma Taysec Titans comfortably scored 97-1 in 15 overs and won the game by 9 wickets. GTA and Dilmah finish up the table with 2 and no point respectively.
In the Beta league pool 1, Nsoroma GPS SUPER XI got tied on top of the table at 3 points with Oasis CC after beating City CC in the morning. The U-19 side of Nsoroma scored 68-2 in 8.3 in the second innings to win by 8 wickets as City CC who won the toss and opted to bat first scored 67-10 in 17.5 overs. Samuel Nyarko of Nsoroma GPS SUPER XI scored 27-24. City CC, however, losing 2 straight games are 3rd and last on the log with no point.
MMG, in Beta league pool 2, lost their second game in a row against Nsromma Kibi Leopards in the afternoon. The bottom side, having won the toss and elected to bat first, scored 91-8 while Nsromma Kibi Leopards scored 92-7 in 12.5. Kibi had their first win with 3 wickets against MMG and remain 2nd to Cool Tempers with 2 points. Emmanuel Boateng scored 40-27 while Rahul took 2-25 in 4 overs.
The league enters week 4 on Sunday, March 11, 2018, with reverse fixtures of week 1 at the Achimota Ovals.
