The Senior National men’s Cricket team is billed to participate in the ICC World T20 Sub Regional tournament- West Africa, in Nigeria in April 2018.
The 4 nation tourney, to be played in Lagos sees host Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Ghana compete from April 13 to 23, 2018.
Ghana’s female team hosted a similar tournament in Achimota in January this year, involving the same countries.
The senior team players have however begun their preparation towards the tournament as almost all of them are participating in the ongoing Greater Accra Cricket League which enters week 4 coming Sunday.
Confirming the tournament to Herosportsgh.com, President of the Ghana Cricket Association, Prof William Ampofo says, their U-17 team which is still being formed will also play a friendly with Nigeria this year.
“For the senior national team, we will have the ICC Sub Regional tournament in Lagos in Nigeria in April. So the seniors will start preparing for that. Then we will also continue to put our U-17 team in position and we will have a friendly with Nigeria sometime in the year.”
The Senior’s who conquered Africa to win Gold in South Africa in 2017 are hopeful of conquering West Africa.
The female team finished second at the 2nd edition of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA), NorthWest Africa (NWA) Women’s tournament after managing a 3rd place in 2015.
The Sub Region is poised to get their athletes to play at the highest level while propelling their various countries with the organization of these tournaments.
Ghana has for the past years achieved a lot of successes in Africa at all levels, but are yet to get the full attention and support of the Government.
