Assistant coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Nii Odoom has apportioned blame on his players for their 2-1 defeat to Elmina Sharks last Saturday at the Cape Coast stadium.
According to the ex- Tema Youth trainer, head coach Henry Willington gave his selected players the tactics that they should have displayed on the field but the players failed to abide by those given tactics leading to their defeat.
“Our boys did not play the game as expected of them’’.
‘’We lost the midfield battle totally and that is very shameful’’.
‘’ In fact, it is a disgrace to a club like Hearts of Oak to play against Sharks and lose the midfield battle’’. He added.
‘’I sincerely admit that the technical team and the players have really disappointed the teeming supporters of Accra Hearts of Oak’’. Odoom exclusively told Cape Coast-based ATL FM.
He also emphasized that the attitude of his players on the pitch was not good at all.
“We gave the players instructions to go by on the pitch and that was, ‘’press in the middle and press in the attack’’ but they [players] were not doing that and this made the opponent do their own things with the ball and score as well”, he noted.
The under-pressure deputy coach finally affirmed that the management is doing everything possible for the players to give the fans the needed results in their subsequent games starting from Wednesday against Karela FC.
Hearts of Oak will have to redeem themselves by beating Karela on Wednesday at Annyinase.
