Ghana’s Simon Ateak received his second Man of the Match Award at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Tuesday, April 17, as Ghana achieved their third straight win at the ongoing ICC T20 Sub-regional tournament – West Africa Qualifier A.
Ateak, after being adjudged the Man of the Match in Ghana’s second game against Sierra Leone on Sunday with 57 runs off 42 balls, repeated the similar feat, scoring half a century, (50 runs), off 57 balls, not out, against host Nigeria.
Ghana, who had to win the game in the second innings by 7 wickets, did so with a ball remaining, scoring 120 runs for 3 wickets in 19.5 overs. Nigeria in the first innings scored 119 runs for 8 wickets after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
David Nii Ashong Ankrah took 3 wickets, for 14 runs in 4 overs in the bowling figures.
Ghana, after their victory against the host, has a two-point lead at the summit of the day 3 table, while Nigeria follows with 4 points.
Sierra Leone occupies the 3rd spot with 2 points after a win against the Gambia, earlier.
The 5th match of the double round robin tournament had Gambia bat first after they won the toss. They scored 87 runs, all out in 18.3 overs while Sierra Leone scored 89 runs, for 2 wickets in 12.5 overs. Sierra Leone, therefore, won by 8 wickets.
