The senior national men’s Cricket team after achieving qualification to the next stage of the ICC World T20 targets a 100% winning record from the West Africa region qualifiers.
The team which secured its qualification after a back to back victory against the Gambia at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, has Sierra Leone and Nigeria to beat on Friday and Saturday, to realize their target.
The 2017 ICC Africa division 1 holders who are up against Sierra Leone on Friday at 9:30 am (8:30 am Ghana time), have a better run rate at the summit of the table, 2.503 (8 points) as against second-place Nigeria 1.839 (6 points).
Head Coach, Kodam Kofi Anefie told Herosportsgh.com, they seek a 100% record in Nigeria although they have secured qualification.
“We don’t want to lose any match in this competition because we came very prepared. Although we have already qualified, we won’t allow complacency but continue to fight hard and be consistent. We now have a better Run Rate as compared to our nemesis Nigeria and will be crowned champions even if they beat us on Saturday, but we will go all out for victory, knowing how difficult our first game with them was.”
Two countries will qualify for the next stage to meet champions from other Subregions in Africa.
The ICC T20 Sub-regional tournament – West Africa Qualifier A will be followed by the ACA Africa T20 Cup- West Africa Regional Qualifiers from Tuesday, April 24 to Sunday, April 29. This will have Cameroon and Mali join the other four nations to battle it out for supremacy.
