Ho Tennis Club hosts 5 for Asogli tournament

The Ho Tennis Club (HTC) will this year host 5 other clubs for the Stanbic Bank Asogli Te Za Tennis tournament on Saturday, September 8, 2018.

The annual event which had AMTECH winning it last year will see the host, HTC, Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Club, AMTECH from Accra, debutants 4BN from Kumasi, Maritime from Nungua and Tarkwa Goldfields compete in both male & female singles and doubles at the Ho tennis Court.

The event which forms part of activities to mark the celebration of the Asogli Yam festival will also have Grudge Matches on Sunday at the same venue. There will be Cash prizes to winners and awards for individuals who will excel.

Speaking to Herosportsgh.com, Secretary of the Ho Tennis Club, Togbe Macliberty Misrowoda, says they expect competitive tennis.

“We are expecting the clubs to be in town by Friday evening, with start the matches at 7 am on Saturday and then Sunday we continue with the Grudge matches. So we are expecting nothing but competitive tennis blended with fun. For the first time we are having 4BN from Kumasi and to tell who will win, it is a bit difficult, because all the Clubs are very strong but Ho can win it.”

Stanbic Bank, the Official sponsor of the Te Za tournament have been consistent ever since the initiative began. The Ho Tennis club will also use this tournament to prepare themselves ahead of another major tournament later in the month.

Meanwhile, Captain of the Club, James Buta Buamah, also known as Yoghurt believes they will host and win it this time.

“We are hopeful of a host and win this time and that is why we have been camping and preparing for that at Sogakope Spa. We know the Clubs coming are very strong but we are very much prepared for them.”

This year’s tournament will see the highest number of participating clubs since its inception, due to the enthusiasm of the organizers and networking of members. It is believed that the number will keep increasing year by year to further bring more competition as well as develop the game.
