BabyJet U16 tourney: Great Somas wins the first edition

Great Somas @ BabyJet African U16 tournament

The much-anticipated tournament came to an end after some exciting and thrilling moments of soccer action, which saw youth teams across West Africa compete against each other. In the end, Great Somas Soccer Academy has crowned champions.

Great Somas run through to the finals unbeaten to face off high-flying Cedar stars FC which is the youth side of Ghana Premier League club Inter Allies, the final was keenly contested with Cedar Stars drawing the first blood just after five minutes into the game but it took too little time for Somas to draw level through Stephen Banaman on the 27th minute which saw the game on level going into halftime.

The second half got underway with both sides looking very dangerous in attack, with five minutes left to the end of the game Stephen Banaman stole the show with a sublime finish to snatch a winning goal for Somas that sent the supporters of Great Somas into raptures. With the final score reading Great Somas 2 Cedar Stars 1.

As Great Somas lifted the decorated trophy, to sum up, their impressive performance in the maiden edition of the BabyJet Promotions African Under 16 Invitational Tournament at the Asamoah Gyan Sports Centre.

The overall Best player of the tournament was awarded to Great Soma’s poster boy Matthew Cudjoe who thrilled the fans with some dazzling moves and efforts which had him score an impressive 6 goals to win the overall Top scorer of the tournament.

The BabyJet African U16 tournament which is sponsored by the captain of the Black Stars Asamoah under the BabyJet Promotions brand to give opportunities to talents at the grassroots level. The event was hosted at the Accra Academy school ground on the Asamoah Gyan Astroturf.
