Prisons to be tested by Hostac in week 23 of GAHA league

Prisons male Handball team will be put to test by Hostac as the Greater Accra Handball League enters week 23 from today, Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

With the race for the league title between Police and Prisons once again and the league having a marathon over the weekend with week 21 & 22 matches, Hostac bounces back onto the court to face Prisons.

Hostac men, who had put Police under check with a draw in the week 20, dropping the latter from 2nd to 3rd for Fire to move up, will definitely be supported by Police to beat Prisons on Friday, November 2, at 2 pm.

A win for Hostac on Friday at the Prisons Complex means Police (with 32 points) will close in on the leaders in the men category should they (Police) also beat Cantonment Youth later, as their match scheduled for Friday as well have been postponed, with the league drawing closer to an end. Hostac, who didn’t play in week 21, won their week 22 match, 27-23 against Reniijoe.

Prisons men (with 35 points) beat Army 29-26 in a fierce battle in week 21 before going on to beat El-Wak Wings 32-23. Their rivals also enjoyed similar results, beating Fire 34-28 and a walk over to Legonite.

The fixtures for the week begin with Asomdwe and El-Wak Wings at the Fire Academy on Wednesday at 3 pm. Asomdwe lost 12-15 to Reniijoe in week 21 and are now 7th with 16 points.

Army, who now lie 5th with 23 and 14 points in the men and women table respectively comes face to face with Reniijoe at the Fire Academy at 2 pm on Thursday, November 2.

Debutants, Airforce, after beating Fire in week 22 in both categories will wrap up the fixtures with a home game at the Burma Camp at 2 pm on Saturday. Fire after losing to Police and dropping back to 3rd on the men table lost again 32-21 to Airforce, who have climbed to the 9th position with 9 points.

In the women category, the table remains the same with Police, Prisons, Cantonment Youth, Airforce and Army, with 30, 28, 20, 18, and 16 points accordingly.

The army had beaten Prisons 27-23 in week 21, alongside Police who had a 31-15 victory against Fire and a walk over against Legonite in week 22. Hostac saw off Reniijoe 27-22 in week 22 on Saturday, October 27, at the prisons complex.

The league will now have 4 more postponed matches; Fire against Legonite, a week 17 fixture, Airforce versus El-Wak Wings, for week 20, Lekma up against Legonite for week 21 and then Police versus Cantonment Youth for week 23.

Winners of the league will be battle ready for winners of the GAHA Cup in the Champion of Champions later this year for qualification to the Sam Ochecho championship in Nigeria next year.
