Legonite falls to Airforce as Prisons extend the lead in GAHA league

The Legonite men Handball team failed to pick the 2 vital points against debutants Airforce at the Burma camp on Saturday, November 3 in week 23 of the 2018 Greater Accra Handball League.

The team that has some of their players at the ongoing West African University Games at Port Harcourt in Nigeria lost narrowly to a determined Airforce side. The cagey encounter between the 9th and 5th saw 5th placed team, Legonite taking the lead but fatigue set in to reduce their pace. Airforce capitalized and won the day 22-20.

Army, 6th on the table, won against Reniijoe 28-17 at the Fire Academy on Thursday. Army is now tied on 23 points apiece with Legonite.

In other results Asomdwe defeated EL-Wak Wing 24-22 on Wednesday, to gain hopes of getting into the first part of the table. With 20 points and 3 less than the 5th and 6th place, Legonite and Army, the Peacemakers, having a match more to tally Army, can push themselves through with consistent victories till the end of the season.

Prisons, made an emphatic win against Hostac at the Prisons complex on Friday to extend their lead on top of the men table. The all-important 36-32 victory against a Hostac side that drew with rivals Police, had Prisons extend their lead by 5 points, 37 now, at the summit, with an equal number of matches played between the two sides.

In the women category, Prisons closed in on leaders Police and with 28 points, after their 10-0 walk over result against Hostac on Friday, November 2 at the Prisons Complex. Prisons, 2nd on the league log, having played 16 matches so far, as against Police’ 17, have the chance to catch up with their rivals in the race for the League title. Police despite their postponed match against Cantonment Youth, remain 1st with 30 points.

Meanwhile, Airforce replaced Cantonment Youth at the 3rd spot after beating Legonite 24-15 at the Burma Camp on Saturday. Airforce is now tied on 20 points each with Cantonment Youth but with more goals.

Army, on Thursday, saw off Reniijoe 27-8 at the Fire Academy but both teams kept their places on the table, 5th with 18 points, and 8th with 10 points respectively.

With Disciplinary Committee of the Greater Accra Handball Association sitting on Thursday, all Week 24 matches have been scheduled to be played on Saturday, November 10 at the Burma Camp.

Policewomen and Prisons men, winners of the GAHA Cup, will be facing the league winners for the Champion of Champions at the end of the season.
