One would say where is Comoros National Football team on the African Football Map. In recent years football on the African continent has seen top African countries dominate the African football competitions with the likes of Morocco, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana and the rest. But this hasn’t stopped a couple of the smaller countries on the continent to crave in and prove they can be up there too. The likes of Equatorial Guinea has been a revelation to the other smaller countries.
One country who is on the verge of qualifying for the first time to participate in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the Comoros Islands, the small island with little over 100,000 population has defied all odds so far in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers drawing against almighty Cameroon, beating Malawi at their own backyard and playing a one-all draw against current AFCON holders Morocco.
Comoros has put up remarkable showings during this qualifying stages and this can really show that the small islands could be up for the rest if they finally qualify for the AFCON 2019 to be staged in a yet to be named country after news broke Cameroon has been stripped off the hosting rights of next years competition.
Comoros with a mix of local and a few foreign players who are geared up and determined to make history for themselves and their country, the one who has been behind the highly spirited performance of the national team is the Head Coach, Amir Abdou.
Amir Abdou has been drawing reviews from a lot of top professionals on the continent after leading his young side to draw against highly rated Morocco and Cameroon. With both coaches congratulating him for a good work done after the games. With a lot of sacrifices being made by this young coach to salvage success out of the love he has for his homeland (country), getting through a couple of daring instances to get the best out of his players, bringing in foreign nationals to join the national team, staying up to date with their performance and putting them through regimes to continue to believe they can be up there battling it out with the top guns.
With his contract set to expire soon, as no measures have been put in place by the Comoros Islands Football Association to renew the one leading the new look Comoros national team. One who has brought joy, excitement and success to his country and his people, craving love from the people of Comoros, his dedicated players and the technical team all through this journey so far. As all will want to see the young coach continue his inspiring journey to bring a lot more success to the Comoros Islands. As there have been many inquiries from a couple of football clubs on the African continent like in Morocco, South Africa, Egypt and Guinea who are keenly monitoring the situation. Other interests from clubs in the Middle East on the verge of swooping for the young coach when his contract runs out.
In other news, Cameroon has been stripped of the hosting rights of the AFCON 2019 as this decision was taken after the CAF top hierarchy met on the issue. It is speculated, the hosting rights will be passed on to Morocco and if this comes as its being reported we will have The Comoros Islands qualifying to join the other qualified nations for the AFCON 2019 competition.
