Peace Corps team to arrive on Tuesday for Taekwondo Clinics

A four-member team from the World Taekwondo Peace Corps Headquarters, Republic of Korea will arrive in Ghana on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, for 40 days of Taekwondo programs in Accra.

The four made up of an interpreter, and three practitioners (Kyorugi, Poomsae and Demonstration) will visit schools to introduce (teach) the sport, encourage the formation of school Clubs and hold various Clinics for children between the ages of 6 to 15 years at the Korea Sports Complex, Tema Comm. 3 and the School for the Deaf in Ashaiman, Adjei Kojo.

The GTF in maximizing the impact of the activities the team will undertake from 10th January through to 13th February has put together a special project dubbed ‘School-to-School (S2S) Taekwondo Campaign, which is designed to explain and demonstrate what Taekwondo is, to both school authorities, and school children.

Graduating instructors will then be assigned to the schools that will opt for the art as an extra curriculum, for training.

After the S2S, a total number of 200 Children in Accra and Tema will benefit from Taekwondo Clinics.

This will be the second visit by a team from the TPC in 6 months, following a one month tour of the Volta, Western and Greater Accra regions in August last year.

The tour becomes the sixth in Ghana as it is aimed at promoting friendship and collaboration between Korea and beneficiary countries through Taekwondo.

The Ghana Taekwondo Federation will be working closely with the team to ensure their purpose is creditably accomplished as there is the likelihood of the team visiting another region.

Coordinator for the TPC tour, Stephen Amegashie, who doubles as the Technical Director of GTF, together with the Deputy Secretary-General, Adnan Odartey Lamptey met with some Coaches on January 1 to discuss and ascertain what is expected of them for a smooth tour.

The GTF, for the first quarter of the year 2019 has packed programs that will further develop the combat sport in all aspects, including preparation for the All African Games in Morocco.

To wrap up 2018, four athletes were scouted by Italian base Charles Cromwell and Domenico Le’rario, who will sponsor the athletes to participate in International Championships, beginning with the 2019 Senior World Championship in Manchester.
