MATCH REPORT: Kotoko 2 – Coton Sport 1 – Porcupines secure group stage berth in Caf Confed Cup play-off ties

The record Ghanaian League champions proved too strong for the Cottoners over the two-legged play-off ties to secure their ticket to the next stage of the competition

Asante Kotoko defeated Coton Sport de Garoua 2-1 to progress to the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup competition on a 5-3 aggregate at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors dictated the game to the delight of their teeming fans right from the blast of the whistle till the final proceedings of the encounter.

It took the brilliance of individual moment from the offensive weapon-in-chief of the ‘Kuma pem’ lads, Songne Yacouba, to win a penalty which was neatly converted by skipper Amos Frimpong to give his side the deserved lead on the (45+3) minutes inside first half before recess.

Back from the break, the Kumasi giants continued their impressive display as midfielders Kwame Bonsu and Richard Senanu kept the flow of the game to the advantage of their side following their splendid passing games in the contest.

Dimunitive winger Maxwell Baako doubled the lead for Kotoko on the 53rd minute to douse the hopes of the visitors in seeking a miraculous moment to bounce back in the clash but had a consolation goal from Oumarou Sali on the 86th minute.

Kotoko progressed to the group phases of the competition on a 5-3 aggregate after beating their Cameroonian opponents 3-2 in Yaounde last week.
