Asomdwe, Fire abandons GAHA week 25 fixture

Greater Accra Civilian Handball Club Asomdwe and the Ghana National Fire Service men team have abandoned a week 25 fixture of the ongoing Greater Accra handball League on Saturday, November 17, 2018.

The third match of the many matches supposed to be played at the Burma Camp saw neither of the teams turned up. According to the Public Relations Officer of Greater Accra Handball Association, both teams had other assignments which prevented them from honouring the match.

However checks by Herosportsgh.com shows, that team Fire has ended their season as they have bounced back to work. Asomdwe, 7th on the table could have taken advantage of that to get a walkover but were also not available.

The situation means both teams get no points and match will never be played.

Prisons on Friday at the Prisons Complex beat Legonite 38-34 to be sure of lifting the men trophy. Legonite drops to 6th after Army defeated El-Wak Wings 24-17 at Burma Camp on Saturday and shoots to 4th with 25 points & plus 53 goals, pushing Cantonment Youth to 5th with 25 points and plus 28 goals after their loss to Police.

Bottom side Lekma failed 23-32 to Air Force who maintains their 9th spot but with 14 points, 5 behind Hostac, while Police saw of Cantonment Youth 24-22 in an outstanding week 23 clash also on Saturday at Burma camp. Police, having played all 22 matches in the league, lie 2nd with 36 points.

In the women category, Prisons kept the chase on leaders Police who have finished their matches this season. With 2 points between the two, Prisons will have an upper hand as they have 1 more match to play.

Prisons beat Legonite 37-17 on Friday, while Police on Saturday triumph 33-23 over Cantonment Youth. Police lead with 32 whereas Prisons and Cantonment Youth follow with 30 and 22 points respectively.

Army after a 10-0 walk over results against El-Wak Wings remained 5th and tied on 20 points with 4th place Air Force.

With a week more to wrap up the season, the GAHA will honour outstanding matches this week. Lekma’s week 21 tie against Legonite will come off at the Teshie Mats at 3 pm on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

On Saturday, November 24, Air Force, will come face to face with El-Wak Wings at the Burma camp at 2 pm.

The Greater Accra Handball Association will be wrapping up the season with the Champion of Champions in December, where winners of the league and knockout champions will square off. The public is likely to see Police versus Prisons again, battling each other for qualification to the Sam Ochecho tournament in Nigeria next year.
