For the fifth time, Mfantsipim School from the Central Region of Ghana has won the Sprite Ball Championship 2018 edition, by defeating first time finalist, West Africa Senior High School (WASS) by 35 points to 16 points at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The game started with WASS picking up early points but the Botwe boys came from behind to lead. They never looked back as they had only one aim, to win the trophy which they did in dramatic fashion.
In the female division, Kumasi girls became just the second school in history to defend their title as they beat Mfantsiman Girls in the final. The only school to have done that was Sacred Heart School. The defending Champions started off very strongly and only watch “Syte” play catch up. In the end, they managed to brush off their opponents who also didn’t go down without a fight. They are gradually becoming the pride of the Ashanti Region in the game of basketball.
In the third place play-off, Opoku Ware school beat last year’s Champions, Osu Presec to take bronze. In the female division, Shama Senior high defeated St. Louis School to also take bronze.
In all, the two-day finals of the 2018 championship have been an amazing tournament. Organizers and sponsors of the tournament put together a great show and all participating schools also played their part in the games.
